Low Voltage Test & Measurement
Low voltage testing is able to catch errors such as shorts and opens by applying current to a wire and measuring the voltage. The wire will have a current affected by several factors including resistance and components. If the wire is connected correctly, the test will read low resistance. That means current is flowing through the wire as expected and reaching the required connections. If the tester reads high resistance it means something is impeding the current from reaching its destination. This could be caused by a number of causes.

High Elongation Extensometers

The main body of this unique extensometer remains stationary during testing, held in position by the adjustable magnetic base included. Only the very light, small traveling heads move as the sample elongates during a test. These attach to the sample with small spring clips. Each head pulls a cord out from the extensometer as the head moves. These models use high precision, low friction potentiometers, and, as a result, have a wide range of factory selectable outputs. The extensometer is driven by an excitation voltage and has output proportional to the input. They can be provided with high level outputs (approximately 2-8 VDC) or ones that mimic strain gaged devices (2-4 mV/V). When set to mimic strain gaged extensometers, the Model 3800 can be used with virtually any signal conditioning electronics designed for strain gaged sensors. The potentiometers employ a hybrid wire wound around conductive plastic, which provides excellent long term stability. The output from the extensometer is readily interfaced with most existing test controllers, and may be directly input to data acquisition systems and chart recorders. The RMO-E instruments are designed and ideal for testing protective bonding (grounding) of equipment following the standard IEC 61010-1. Also, they can measure the resistance of high, middle and low voltage circuit breakers, high-current bus bar joints, cable splices, and welding joints. The instruments accurately measure not only in factory environments but also in high-induction fields and substations.Both models generate a true DC ripple-free (less than 1 %) current with automatically regulated test ramps. During a test, the protective bonding testers automatically generate increasing current before measuring and decreasing current after the measurement.
