Laser Furnace
The 1 kW and 2 kW laser furnace for single crystal fabrication is based on a design and developed in close cooperation with the RIKEN Center for Emergent Matter Science under the leadership of Yoshio Kaneko. Both melting zones have 5 lasers each, which guarantees a high uniformity of power density in the melting zone range. The laser profile has been optimized to reduce thermal stress during the crystal growth process. In addition, the system includes an integrated temperature sensor for real-time temperature monitoring. Temperatures up to 3000 °C can be reached and therefore materials with a very high vapor pressure, a narrow temperature range of the melt, a high thermal conductivity coefficient and incongruent melts can be melted.

Radiant's Chamber/Pyroelectric Task sets the sample to a series of temperatures by performingGPIB control of an external thermal device. At each temperature it captures the sample’s polarization response and/or small-signalcapacitance. These are combined to calculate the pyroelectric coefficient. The Pyroelectric Task is to be used with a Radiant Test System and a Linkam Stage (-196C to 600C), Thermal Chambers, Hot Chucks, or a Furnace to automatically measure the Pulse Polarization response and Small Signal Capacitance of a Pyroelectric material that is being heated and/or cooled. Radiant's Pyroelectric measurement Task can be added to Vision at additional cost. This measurement suite fully characterizes the pyroelectric charge (polarization) response of the sample under test. The Model 3549 is a major advancement in the design of externally mounted, furnace extensometers. This new extensometer is designed to meet the stringent requirements of strain controlled testing as prescribed in ISO 6892, while introducing many new innovative features that help improve productivity with static testing applications (tension and compression testing) and long term testing such as low cycle fatigue and creep. The overall design reduces any influence from common lab environment vibrations. This unit also incorporates a new feature that allows the user to precisely set the contact force against the test specimen. This allows for even and repeatable contact force, limiting contact force induced errors. This extensometer mounts on a slide bracket (included) that can attach to the load frame of your test system; optional load frame mounting brackets are available. This model is for diametral strain measurement with furnace and induction heating systems. Quartz rods and water-cooling allow the unit to be used for high temperature testing of metals, ceramics and composites. With induction heating, this model often can be used without water-cooling. When used in furnaces, the extensometer is often mounted directly to the furnace side cut-out. Optional load frame mounting brackets are available for supporting the extensometer in cases where furnace mounting is not possible. These optional mounts are used with induction heating or furnace systems. The Model 3580 extensometers are strain gaged devices, making them compatible with any electronics designed for strain gaged transducers. Most often they are connected to a test machine controller. The signal conditioning electronics for the extensometer is typically included with the test machine controller or may often be added. In this case the extensometer is shipped with the proper connector and wiring to plug directly into the electronics. For systems lacking the required electronics, Epsilon can provide a variety of solutions, allowing the extensometer output to be connected to data acquisition boards, chart recorders or other equipment.

Pyroelectric and Thermal Testing
The optional Chamber Task measures the Pulse Polarization response and Small Signal Capacitance of a Pyroelectric material that is being heated and/or cooled within a thermal chamber, on a hot chuck or in a furnace. From these measurements the Spontaneous Polarization Pr(q) and the Dielectric Constant er(q) are computed. These are then combined to determine the Electrical Displacement D(q) as a function of the temperature q.
