Multi Channel Optical Fibre Verification
-
The multi-channel optical fibre test system is used in the development and qualification of single mode optical fibres. The fibres are exposed to environmental influences in a climatic chamber in order to analyse the data on insertion loss and reflection. In addition, the current temperature in the climatic chamber is documented. Insertion loss measurement is performed with the help of an optical power meter, laser sources and optical switches. An Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) from Exfo is used for the reflection measurements. The system was designed for the simultaneous characterization of 15 sample fibres and one reference fibre.

This analyser consists of a measuring head, fibre optic cable and a multi-channel sensor module. The Feasa Display Analyser is available in 3, 6 and 10 channel configurations. The number of channels of a multiple mode can be additionally increased via the daisy chain connection. The test values range from a minimum luminance of 0.01 cd/m² and a maximum luminance of 10,000 cd/m², contrast ratio of 200,000:1, display homogeneity in cd/m² and xy colour value. The temperature range is 0 °C to +40 °C. The devices with 3 and 6 channels measure 86 mm x 57 mm x 55 mm - the model with 10 channels, on the other hand, measures 124 mm x 57 mm x 75 mm. Each channel has a fibre length of 0.6 m, whereby the fibre has a diameter of 5.2 mm and allows a bending radius of 25 mm.

Fiber Optics
-
The use of fiber optics as light guidance allows great modularity and flexibility in the setup of an optical measurement system. Optical fibers can be made of many materials, such as plastic, glass, and silicates (SiO2). For high-quality fibre optics, as used in spectroscopic applications, synthetic fused silica (amorphous silicon dioxide) is used, which can be intentionally doped with trace elements to adjust the optical properties of the glass.
