As such, tunable lasers are commonly used for spectroscopy, interferometry, microscopy applications and writing of Holographic Optical Elements (HOE). More recently, we have seen their rise within quantum research.

A cost-effective FBG (Fiber Bragg Grating) interrogation system that includes a tunable laser diode, 6 photodiodes, and several fiber-optic couplers has been developed with very simple coniguration. Especially, it is not necessary to compensate the accurate wavelength because the wavelength sweeping is precisely performed in terms of the response time of which external cavity material is 5 msec. Moreover, time-varying temperature trends as well as spectra of FBGs can be observed through the front display.

In this mode, code compatibility with existing test setups based on Keysight's range of full-size and compact tunable lasers is a great asset. In system loading applications, it may be preferable to grid-tune the lasers like system transmitters, simply by changing the channel index. The channel grid is adjustable to standard ITU-T grid spacing like 50 GHz, and to arbitrary grids. Likewise, the zero frequency (base channel) of the chosen grid is adjustable. LS25 is an in-situ analyzer for non-contact measurement of the concentration of gases. The measuring principle of the LS25 is based on the principle of single line spectroscopy (Tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy, TDLAS). A single cross-sensitivity-free absorption line of the gas to be measured is selected in the near infrared range. A single-mode diode laser operating at room temperature scans the respective absorption line. By using an opposite receiver, the absorption caused by the sample gas is measured and from this the concentration is calculated. An automatic correction for pressure and temperature changes is possible. In addition, the transmission is displayed respectively output as a signal for preventive maintenance.
