Network Testing Tools
Network IP traffic packet generators are used for network performance testing under maximum or partial throughput conditions. Network health can be analyzed by network traffic measurement in a testbed network, using an IP network traffic generator such as IP Traffic Test and Measure. The traffic generator sends packets, often with a unique packet identifier, making it possible to keep track of the packet delivery in the network.Network impairment simulation (emulation) is a technique for testing the performance of real applications over a virtual network. The aim is to assess performance, predict the impact of change, analyze impairment conditions or otherwise optimize technology decision-making. Measurements usually focus on simulation of conditions like delay, jitter, latency, dropped packets and limited bandwidth.

The Multiprotocol Network Tester is a freeware, open source tool which enables you to measure quality of your IP network. It can also be used to generate UDP flood or to simulate UDP DoS attack. SIP call is usually established using a SIP session with a bidirectional RTP stream. SIP and RTP protocols are based on UDP transport protocol. UDP uses a simple transmission model without implicit reliability, ordering and data integrity. Each single UDP packet is transferred independently. The quality of a SIP call depends on delays and loss of IP packets in a network. Long delays lead to large RTP jitter and bad sound quality of a SIP call.

The AMC730 is a a 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) AdvancedMCTM(AMC) module which includes an on-board line rate multi-core packet processor based on Cavium CN63XX CPU. VadaTech offers this product in a mid size (full size optional) form factor with the AMC.1, AMC.2 and AMC.4 specifications. The AMC730 is based around the Cavium OCTEON CN63xx processor which has been specifically designed to intelligently process Ethernet packets at line rate.The processor can be loaded via the PCIe/SRIO interface or via an optional flash memory. The number of processor cores, speed grade, and amount of DDR3 memory is customizable based on customer needs. The module has 2GB of HFA for pattern matching for deep packet inspection, etc. The SDK for the processor as well as additional software stacks are available from Cavium or third party.
