Gauge pressure is the pressure measured relative to the ambient atmospheric pressure.A typical application for a gauge pressure sensor is to measure liquid levels in a vented tank using the difference in hydrostatic pressure and ambient atmospheric pressure. Absolute pressure sensors will give the result relative to zero (a perfect vacuum). This is useful in applications where there is a direct effect of altitude on the pressure being measured. Differential pressure sensors measure the difference in pressure between two points. Differential pressure sensors are often used to monitor airflow in HVAC applications.

This logger sensor is based on measuring the partial vacuum pressure in a tensiometer. A tensiometer is a closed tube with a special ceramic part in its end. The tensiometer is filled with water and put in the soil. If the soil is dry, water goes out by diffusion through the ceramic holes and partial vacuum pressure is created in the tensiometer. When we wet the soil, the partial vacuum in the tensiometer pulls water into the tensiometer and the vacuum decreases. This is why soil moisture is measured in pressure level.

Small chambers with patented permanent-magnet Zeeman slowers and in-vacuum 2D MOT optics allow high flux with low outgassing and no thermal beam flux at the cold atom port, which provides a CF-133 connection to customer vacuum chamber. Advanced thermal design of the effusion oven allows long-lifetime operation at minimal heating power, with no water cooling. An integrated low-outgassing hot window is provided for coupling of on-axis Zeeman cooling light. Ion and getter pumps integrated into the chamber manage outgassing from the oven at temperatures up to 520 °C. Operating baseline pressures below 1×10-11 mbar can be attained in the customer’s downstream cold atom (typically 3D MOT) science chamber, with suitable pumping speed provided at the differentially-pumped cold beam output port.
