SFP (Small Form-Factor Pluggable) is a compact, hot-pluggable network interface module used for data communication and tele-communication applications. SFP equips with one or two fiber optic connectors (e.g. LC connectors) for connecting a fiber optic cable or sometimes an RJ45 connector for connecting a copper cable. Because of its compact size and flexibility, many Ethernet Switches come with SFP ports so individual ports can be equipped with any suitable type of transceiver as required.

These industrial Ethernet Switches support up to 255 fiber nodes, and each fiber node can extend the Fast and Gigabit Ethernet data up to 100 miles or 160 km. When configured as a ring network, the built-in self-healing feature allows the Ethernet data to be transmitted clockwise or counterclockwise; therefore, failure of any individual converter will not affect other devices located on the same ring, making the entire Ethernet network more robust and reliable.

The 75D4-H2 is a Layer 2+ Gigabit Ethernet Switch built upon NAI’s multifunction, 3U cPCI board technology. The 75D4 motherboard contains a high-density I/O module slot that supports an H2 switch function. The 75D4 with H2 consumes approximately 9.5 W of total power at 5 V to operate at full 1000 Base-T speeds. In addition, the 75D4 motherboard can integrate four channels of RS232/423/422/485 serial communications. This adds an additional 1.5 W of 5 V power. Serial data is available on the cPCI bus or can optionally be available over Ethernet via the use of one of the switch ports.
